Ethylene Diaminetetra acetic acid, popularly known as EDTA, is an Aminopolycarboxilic Acid (C10H16N2O8) and a Coourless,Water Soluble Solid. EDTA is a novel molecule for complexing metal ions. It is a polyproticacid containing 4 carboxylic acid groups and 2 amine groups with lone pair Electrons. It is considered one of the tools that promises to control the heavy metal pollution in aquaculture. It attaches itself to heavy metals and carries the metals from pond. The most unusual property of EDTA is Chelation. Chelation is capture of positive charged metal ions by a large molecule. It has the capacity to chelate almost all positive ions. Due to this characteristic it has a major role to play in Aquaculture.
BENEFITS
Reduces heavy metal (Copper, Iron mercury) pollution | Reduces Hardshell problem | Chelate calcium deposits from the shrimp body | Helps in moulting | Corrects Hardness and Alkalinity problems | Maintains optimum pH levels in pond water.
